The Bucs had another great outing against the Lancers with a 7-1 victory.

The Lancers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but the Bucs took it from there. Sal "Blue" Serrano went 1 for 3 with a triple, scoring twice. Justin McGuire had 2 RBI's going 2 for 3 with a double. Reggie Williams also went 2 for 3 with 2 singles, scoring once. Edgar Serrano, Sal Olmos, Augie Reynoso, and Carlos Rodriguez each also picked up an RBI.

The Bucs pitching continues to prove their strength. Chris Vopinek started on the hill for the Bucs, allowing only 1 hit in 5 innings. In the 6th inning Anthony Gose came in for the close and struck out 5 of the 6 hitters he faced in 2 innings.

The Bucs show the Dons that they're not to be messed with during Saturday's 7-1 victory!!!

After the disputable loss of the protest @ Cerritos. Where the Dons were caught using illegal baseballs against the Bucs, and every team in the Suburban League, except for Mayfair, who did not show, voted against the Bucs on the protest.

The Bucs took the field proving that if the league won't back them, they'll do it in their own! Anthony Gose was on the bump and proved to the Dons that "You can't touch this". Gose went the distance for the Bucs and recorded 14 strikeouts while only allowing 6 base runners for the Dons with only 4 hits and 2 walks. Of those 6 runners, 2 of them attempted to steal as the Bucs catcher Augie Reynoso gunned them both down, one at second and one at third. Offensively, the Bucs took charge as well scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning. Augie Reynoso went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI's, while Sal Olmos, Chris Vopinek and Justin Mcguire all had an RBI as well to give the Dons their 5 league loss and their 12th loss overall!!!

The Bucs top La Mirada 8-5!

In an excellent performance by Anthony Gose on the mound, the Bucs showed their offensive and defensive capabilities. After being down 3 runs to none, the Bucs kept their composure and showed what was an outstanding performance at La Mirada, tying the game in the fourth and then never looking back. The Matadores came out to play thinking that their "Pitching Powerhouse" could dominate the Bucs, but instead the Bucs showed the Matadores all Senior pitching staff how to play the Buccaneer way. This win put the Bucs back in the League Championship race, also giving Coach Tripp his first victory at La Mirada in his 10 years as Coach with Bellflower.

The Bucs take care of business, once again!

As the game got underway, it appeared that it would be a one run game as the 1st Place Bucs hosted the 2nd Place Artesia Pioneers. After 3 scoreless innings the Bucs took a 1 run lead in the 4th and then erupted with a 5 run 5th inning. Adding another run in the 6th, the Bucs looked to dominate the game with a commanding 7-0 lead going into the 7th. Anthony Gose, 3-run Triple in the 5th, and Edgar Serrano, with two RBI singles, helped lead the offensive explosion. Benji Anaya threw 6 shutout innings to help the Bucs go into the 7th with the commanding lead. The top of the 7th contained a few Bucs' errors and a few Pioneer hits which allowed the Pioneers to score 6 runs in the 7th, and that's as close as it would get for the Pioneers.

Bellflower Baseball headlines the Prep Roundup in the Press-Telegram!

Related news:

Excerpt from the Press-Telegram, Written By Ben Villa, Staff writer.

"Suburban League: Don't let their 4-5 record fool you, La Mirada is a good team who's ran into some tough competition. The Suburban League got underway but the Matadores have the week off. That's bad news for the rest of the league because La Mirada coach Kim Brooks didn't like the fact his team got swept by Lakewood last week in a double-header and the Matadores figure to be more than ready for Cerritos next week. Jason Dovel pitched six innings of brilliant baseball against the Lancers and is one of the more talented pitchers in the league. Leadoff hitter Brandon Pesante is in the top three in just about every offensive category.

If there's one team that could knock La Mirada off its perch, it's Bellflower. The Buccaneers are one of the most underrated groups in the area but they won't be for long if they continue to play like they have been. Bellflower began the week 5-3 and senior shortstop Reggie Williams is as star in the making while juniors Anthony Gose and Chris Vopinek can both hit.

Artesia handed Lakewood its only loss of the season so that alone should say something about their talent and the Pioneers should make the playoffs as nothing worse than the third place team. Derek Chung is the real deal at the plate and on the mound. Both Cerritos and Glenn appear to be up and coming teams and both figure to challenge for that final playoff spot. The Eagles Tim Soonthorngaron leads the league in hitting; batting .538 and Kirk Wallace hadn't allowed an earned run heading into this week. The Dons, who are led by Andrew Cruz, who's batting .474 with three stolen bases, believe they can compete for a playoff spot. If they start the league season 2-2, they should be in good shape down the stretch."

The Bucs swept the Mayfair Monsoons, beating them 7-0 at Mayfair and 7-4 at Bellflower. The Monsoons were allowed only 10 scattered hits in both games combined, while the Bucs offensive explosion continued, pounding 14 hits in the two games including the 2-run Home Run by Justin McGuire in the 3rd inning of the game at Bellflower. The Bucs pitching combined to strike out 15 Monsoons in the two games, 9 of them by Anthony Gose at Bellflower.

Ahoy, Matey!!

The Bucs break out their "Cat-O'-Nine-Tails" and make the Pirates "Walk the Plank" with their 12-2 victory over San Pedro!! Arrrrrr!!

The Bucs once again wanted to show that they're ready to participate in some League action. They took the field on Saturday against the San Pedro Pirates determined to make a statement. With Anthony Gose on the mound giving another stellar performance, fanning 10 of the Pirates hitters, the Bucs offense exploded in the 2nd inning, scoring 5 runs, followed by 1 run in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th. Ending up with the final 12-2 pillaging over the Pirates.

The Bucs yell "No-No" to the Spartans in the last game of the El Segundo Tournament!!

The Bucs wanted to show their true colors on Saturday against the South Torrance Spartans. After the upsetting loss to the Sea Kings two days prior, which kept them from going to the championship game after having the #1 seed in the El Segundo Tournament, they wanted to make up for it and show their next opponents what "Buc Pride" was all about! Anthony Gose jumped on the hill and showed he's ready for season play. He went 6 innings and did not alllow the Spartans to get a hit, in the 7th inning Sal Olmos took over on the bump to keep the hitless streak going, and in the combined effort they threw a No-Hitter against the Spartans!! Had it not been for the misfortune of an error at an inopportune time, the Bucs would have shut them out as well. However, faith was not lost and the defense jumped right back in to back the Bucs pitchers for the remainder of the game.

The Bucs top Mira Costa 3-2 in the El Segundo Tournament!!

The Bucs fell to an early deficit with the Mira Costa Mustangs scoring 1 run in the 1st and another in the 2nd, with the Bucs scoring 1 in the 1st. However, Chris Vopinek overcame that deficit while on the bump to shutdown the Mustangs to only 2 hits in the game in his 1st start. Chris Vopinek went the distance for the Bucs giving them their 2nd victory in the 39th Annual El Segundo Tournament. Augie Reynoso did his part behind the plate gunning down 3 out of 4 steal attempts by the Mustangs to 2nd base. In the 6th inning, with Reggie Williams at 3rd and Sal Olmos at 2nd after a double steal, Justin McGuire helped carry the Bucs to their victory by hitting a 2-run double to the wall in right field, adding 2 clutch RBI's to his stat sheet. The Bucs have seeded 1st in their pool and are looking forward to elimination play beginning on Thursday, March 8th. Once again, a strong outing by the Bucs showing they're not willing to give up!!

The Bucs blank Loyola 4-0 in the El Segundo Tournament!!

The Bucs took the field against the Cubs showing that they meant business at Loyola High School! With the Cubs trying to intimidate the Bucs with their size and level of play, the Bucs did some intimidating of their own!

The pitching combination of Benji Anaya and Chris Vopinek fanned 9 of the Cubs hitters, shutting them down to only 4 scattered hits with no runs allowed. The Bucs defense was flawless, committing no errors in today's game. The offensive attack showed finesse and teamwork as they all cooperated in manufacturing the 4 runs, which proved to be more than enough to shutdown the Cubs.
